I may use this tool next year with a group of older students and form a book club. We can use Shelfari to display the Bluebonnet books that we've read. You can click on a book and participate in a discussion about the book.
Tips:
1. After you create your Shelfari account, click on "Account Settings." You should change some of the settings on some of the tabs. For instance, on the "Notifications" tab, I changed public notes to say that only my friends could post a public note on my profile page.
2. Students don't have school email accounts, so you could let students use your teacher log-in when they visit Shelfari. When students leave a comment in the discussion area, they could just type their names into their comment, so everyone could see who was participating. (Just an idea)
